As the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gradually recovers from the shock of its defeat in the general elections, there is a grand plot to ensure the party never bounces back to power again.
Nigerian Pilot Sunday exclusively gathered from very dependable sources at the PDP’s national secretariat that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the immediate past national chairman party, Adamu Mu’azu, are the arrow points of the plot for PDP’s collapse.
According to our sources, Obasanjo and Mu’azu have already settled to use one of the dormant political parties that has its national secretariat in one of the satellite towns of Abuja to launch the attack against PDP.
Obasanjo, who was Nigerian President on the platform of PDP and later, chairman of its Board of Trustees, BoT, last year superintended over the tearing of his membership card by his loyalists in Ogun State chapter of the party.
Obasanjo fell out with former President Goodluck Jonathan and national leaders of the party over the prominent role given to Senator Buruji Kashamu in the South-West zone of the party and he is believed to have supported the APC during the last election.
On his part, Mu’azu, who was nicknamed the ‘Game Changer’, was forced out of office after he led the party to a catastrophic outing during the general elections.
Mu’azu is said to be still licking his wounds and vowed to take his pound of flesh over the manner he was disgraced out of office.
According to our sources, Obasanjo has been contacting some high profile members of PDP and has been wooing them to dump the PDP for the moribund party, which they are planning to pump in logistic to revive and rebrand.
It was also gathered that prior to the PDP governorship primaries some aspirants were contacted to dump the PDP if they lose the party’s ticket but the aspirants were reluctant as the alternate party offered them have no structures in most of the states.
Apart from wooing PDP members, it was also gathered that the Obasanjo/Mu’azu group also targets some members of the new-PDP that defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the original founders of the APC have continued to treat them as gatecrashers in the party.
Obviously aware of the grand plot to ground the party, the PDP National Executive Committee, NEC, last Thursday approved a proposal that emanated from the Ike Ekweremadu post-election assessment committee for the rebuilding of the party and reconciliation of all aggrieved members.
One of the key proposals was the zoning of the party’s 2019 presidential ticket to the North.
