Ogun State government has laid embargo on illegal felling of trees in the state, and also restricted the movement of logs at nights, especially between 7pm and 7am across the state.
The state Commissioner for Forestry, Mr. Kolawole Lawal made this known while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the state lapital.
He said the restriction and ban would take place immediately in order to check the excess and illegal activities of some loggers at night.
Lawal said that vehicles conveying logs within the state must be duly registered and licenced with traceable documents from the government; and drivers must be in possession of all relevant documents conveying the logs.
“All these decisions are taken to checkmate unwholesome and illegal activities of some timber merchants, loggers, plank sellers and smugglers in the state to boost the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, drive of the state, the commissioner said.
He said loggers and timber merchants plying their trades in the state were expected to abide by this directive, adding that all relevant government agencies and officials had been directed to enforce total compliance with immediate effect.
