Ogun State Executive Committee of Peoples Democratic Party yesterday suspended the Senator representing Ogun East senatorial district, Senator Buruji Kashamu from the party.
Also suspended were the factional Chairman and Secretary loyal to Kashamu, Engineer Bayo Dayo and Semiu Sodipo respectively, and the former auditor of the party at the national level, Alhaji Fatai Adeyanju.
Pegba Otemolu who was the factional zonal secretary of the party, Segun Seriki who was the Chairman of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign team in the state in the 2015 election, a member of Ogun State House of Assembly, Bowale Solaja and the former Chairman of Sagamu local government, Daisi Akintan were also suspended.
This was contained in a statement made available to journalists yesterday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital and signed by the Chairman of the party, Sikirullahi Ogundele and its Secretary, Olabode Bankole.
The suspension, according to the report was sequel to the report of a panel constituted in June to investigate allegations of financial improprieties and anti-party activities brought against them.
The statement further said that the panel invited the Senator and other persons indicted by the panel but refused to honour the invitation.
The statement read in part, “This is sequel to the report of a Panel which was constituted in June, 2016 to investigate allegations of financial improprieties, anti-party activities and sundry reckless acts that are capable of bringing our great party to disrepute.
“The Panel on several occasions invited some of the above named who were implicated in the misapplication and outright diversion of party funds to defend and acquit themselves of those allegations but they refused to honour the invitation.
“Based on the preliminary report of the Panel however, submitted to the Executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ogun State Chapter, we found merit in the allegations and hereby adopt the report and findings of the Panel which include recommendation to suspend the above mentioned.
“In the exercise of the powers vested on the State Executive committee in accordance with the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party the above name are hereby suspended from the Ogun State Chapter of the PDP with immediate effect.”
Ogundele who later spoke with journalists on a phone interview revealed that the names have been forwarded to the national secretariat for necessary and further disciplinary action.
Ogundele also revealed that the party has approached Justice O.O. Majemodunmi of an Abeokuta High Court sitting in Isabo for an order of a perpetual injunction against the affected officers.
Ogundele explained that the case with suit number AB/261/2016 would be moved on Monday by Dr Yemi Oke.
According to him, the executive coucil has asked for an order of perpetual injunction stopping the affected persons from parading themselves as members of PDP pending the approval of their suspension by the national executive council.
The plaintiff has also asked the court to stop the affected officers from undertaking an act or attending any PDP meeting in Ogun State pending the approval of the suspension.
