Ogun State Police Command yesterday said it has commenced investigation into the fire incident which killed a whole family of five in Abule Ake in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi while speaking on the unfortunate incident, said the Police is yet to get to the root of the immediate cause of the incident.
The PPRO explained that the State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali has commiserated with the members of the family and warned residents of the state to stop keeping inflammable materials in their houses especially in this dry season.
He said, “It’s true, the incident happened around 11:30 pm on Sunday and we have commenced investigation into the matter. The Commissioner of Police is particularly not happy about the incident and has commiserated with the affected family.
“We are yet to know the source of the fire but the Commissioner has advised residents not to keep inflammable material in their houses especially in this dry season.”
Members of Oloruku family were thrown into mourning on Monday when five members of a nuclear family were burnt beyond recognition during the deadly blaze.
The victims, it was revealed included a 45 year old father, Michael Oloroku; his 44 year old wife, Elizabeth; and their three children; Racheal, Victori and Esther.
It was gathered that Oloroku who had had lingering crises with his wife, a staff of Federal Medical Center in Abeokuta came home that night and sprayed the building with Premium Motor Spirit popularly called petrol and set the building on fire.
The husband was also reportedly caught in the incident before he could escape from the scene.
While his family members were reportedly killed in the inferno, Michael who was later rescued died on his way to the State Hospital, Ijaye in the state capital.
A member of the family who craved anonymity told our correspondent that there has been a serious lingering crisis between the husband and his wife which forced the woman to pack out of the house to her own house.
Further probe revealed that the woman who was the breadwinner of the family got angry when she got information that his husband was planning to bring in new wife.
It was said that the woman was the same person who took loan from her cooperative society to pay for their house rent and also to secure a cab for her husband.
