Ogun State government has made fresh move to eliminate Malaria in the state by equipping the National Malaria Programme Technical Working Group (TWG) with wherewithal, aimed at improving the measures put in place to eliminate malaria in the state .
The Director, Public Health, in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Yusuf Quudus made this known recently at the Ogun State, 2015 Malaria Elimination Mid-Year Review/Operational Plan workshop held at the Hilltop Tavern, Onikolobo Abeokuta.
He said the workshop was geared towards proffering lasting solutions to malaria in the state, adding that the functions of the group include Malaria prevention, diagnostic, treatment, advocacy, communication and social mobilisation, procurement and supply management as well as monitoring, evaluation and program management.
Dr Yusuf said the TWG was key in terms of malaria elimination in the state, saying that the nation was moving towards scaling up of all proven intervention with more resources to be allotted to malaria programme.
He disclosed that the state government would continue to intensify effort by employing various interventions through different Behavioural Change Channels (BCC), especially in the area of malaria prevention with the use of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) by the general public.
Also speaking at the workshop, the State Malaria Programme Manager, Mrs. Adeyinka Olamide, said the program was aimed at addressing the challenges encountered in achieving the operational plan with modest budget.
This, according to her, becomes so relevant now that all sectors of the economy are required to manage available resources.
Appreciating SuNMap management for supporting the state at reducing the burden of malaria to the barest minimum, Adeyinka said the support has boosted the progress of the state towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at eliminating the disease in the state.
