Ogun State government says it would focus more on the development of facilities and human resources at government hospitals across the state to ensure conformity with the standard of World Health Organisation, WHO.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, who stated this during his facility assessment tour to some state hospitals in Abeokuta, said restructuring would not only ensure efficiency in service delivery, but create more enabling environment.
Ipaye, in a statement signed by the Hospital Management Board’s Press Officer, Mrs. Gbemisola Ogolo, said because of the present economic situation in the country, about 69 percent of health care funding comes from public donation, explaining that there was need for efficiency in the management of resources within the health sector where Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, would be used for the development and upgrading of some facilities.
While speaking on recruitment of health workers, Dr. Ipaye said, “performance management is not about productivity. There is need to improve on the productivity of the existing ones then we’ll be able to measure the gap and fill it up.”
In his response, the permanent secretary, hospitals management board, Dr. Adesanya Ayinde, said necessary machinery would be put in place to ensure that the welfare of health workers was taken care of.
The hospitals visited included, State Hospital, Ijaye, Oba Ademola Hospital, Ijemo and Olukoye Ransome Kuti Memorial Hospital, Asero, in Abeokuta axis.
