Police from Denton Police Division, Oyingbo, Lagos, have arraigned a 20-year-old, commercial motorcyclist, popularly called ‘okada rider’ Aliu Ibrahim, before a Lagos Chief Magistrate Court, Ebute-metta, for allegedly damage a 42 inches plasma television.
The commercial motorcyclist, who operates within Oyingbo axis of Ebute-metta, was alleged to have damaged the television valued N85, 000, 00, belonging to one Kolawole Dauda.
He was said to have hit the complainant, Dauda, who rode on his motorcycle with the television, when the accused hit him and damaged the television, at about 1.20 pm, on May 4, 2015.
It was learnt that though the owner of the television agreed to let the Okada rider go if the television can be repaired, but when the engineer which it was taken to for repair, discovered that the television had damaged beyond repair, reported the matter to the police which led to the arrest of the Okada rider.
The offence according to the prosecutor, Sgt Drisu Ajuma who held brief for Sgt Mariam Dauda are punishable under section 348 of the criminal law of Lagos of Nigeria 2011.
Consequently, he was charged to court on one count charge of wilfully damage. He pleaded not guilty to charge.
The presiding magistrate, Miss KO Ariyo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000 and a surety in like sum.
The matter has been adjourned until June 26 for mention.
