Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has warned his arch rival and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the April 11 governorship election, Chief Emeka Ihedioha to desist from attacking him, using the media.
The warning was contained in a statement issued at the weekend by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo.
The governor observed that Ihedioha who also was the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives had, in the media attacks, not only abused him as usual but was hostile in his criticisms of the governor’s policies and programmes.
His words, “In the media attacks, Chief Ihedioha had not only abused the governor as usual, but was hostile in his criticisms of the governor’s effort at industrializing the State and other genuine steps taken by the governor to reposition the state including the industrial trip to Turkey.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we cannot afford to keep mute over Chief Ihedioha’s ceaseless attacks on the governor of the state and after being in the House of Representatives for twelve years and Deputy Speaker, for four years without anything to show for such outings.”
Continuing, Okorocha described Chief Ihedioha as a very bad loser who has been finding it extremely difficult to come to terms with the outcome of the last governorship election and realities of the time just as other candidates did.
“The truth remains that, Chief Ihedioha is a very bad loser and he has been finding it extremely difficult to adjust to his current situation of being out of power especially when he moves now without the usual paraphernalia of office and he feels bitter about that.
‘It is also important to remind Chief Ihedioha that his overtly poor performance at the governorship election should have passed an important message to him, that, Imo people know those who can govern them.
‘It is also worth stating here that Chief Ihedioha was not the only governorship candidate in the country who failed the April election. While others have faced their lives, he has continued to disturb the peace of the state even when he knows that in a free and fair election today, he cannot win any election in the state again,” he declared.
Describing the actions of Chief Ihedioha as absurd and unsportsmanly, he advised him to begin to get involved in other activities, rather than attack him, “since it is obvious that the PDP won’t give him ticket again in 2019.”
