Visitors Equatorial Female National team yesterday draw with Super Falcons 1-1 in the first leg of Olympic qualifier match played inside the main bowl of Abuja National stadium.
Nigeria’s side began well holding on to greater ball possession till 25th minute when Halimat solo effort paid off with 1-0 goal lead.
Getting into the second half, the Super Falcons slowed down their pace before the Equitorial Guinea team caught their defensive error in 62nd minute to equalize.
Effort by coach Christopher Danjuma-led side to get another goal proved otherwise as his team fell short of expectation. After the match, Coach Danjuma apologized for his low team performance and assured that needed corrections would be effected by the second leg in Malabo.
He added “I think before we get to second leg whatever challenges we have faced especially emotionally will be dealt with. It is not a hidden fact that one of the members  passed on.
“But that is not an excuse enough. We will beef up the team in the return leg. CAF didn’t help matters. Personally, we believe that if Equatorial Guinea will pick a point here, nothing stops us from getting an outright win on their home ground. All that is left is for us is to take our pound of flesh.”Nwabuoku, “In football sometimes you plan to win but it does not happen same. Whatever has happened we intend to get over it.
On her part, Captain Genovena Ayonman said his side would continue to push for defeat until they pick Olympic ticket even as she admitted that their African Opponents are tough.
