Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura yesterday challenged the former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku to explain his role in the massive killings perpetrated by the Ombatse militia in the state in recent times.
The governor made the assertion yesterday through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ahmed Tukur, while reacting to media report credited to the former minister in which Maku was quoted to have accused the governor of being behind the said killings in the state.
Al-Makura ,who accused Mr. Maku of politicizing security issues in the state for his personal interest, challenged him to come forward and tell the world who are behind the killings of the scores of security operatives in the state so that the world would know who is behind the killings.
“We don’t have any killings. The state is now very peaceful and everybody is enjoying a peaceful atmosphere in the state, which was necessitated by the governor in conjunction with security agencies.”
The governor maintained that, “Maku is trying to politicize the security situation in Nasarawa; the reason being that the government will still re-open the issue of Ombatse killings which I think he is trying to hide from the investigation of the federal government because he may be directly or indirectly indicted on the issues.”
He further averred that the former minister was afraid that the federal government is going to look into the records of the federal ministry of defence where he held sway as a supervising minister, noting that it was during his period that the security situation in the country became worse when there were a lot of discrepancies in the award of contracts in the purchase of arms and weapons in the country.
