Onazi eyes place in Olympics squad

It has been more than 10 months since Ogenyi Onazi last scored and his latest goal came as Lazio saw off Empoli’s challenge in a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
The Nigerian has now turned his attention to the summer.
The 23-year-old wants to be part of the Nigeria team to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“I spoke with [the coach] and it will be another chance for me to represent my country to achieve something important, for my country and for myself as well. I will be glad to be part of the [Olympic] team,” Onazi told Goal.
The midfielder was part of the Nigeria senior side that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.
That decision is left to coach Samson Siasia to make as he told media last week that he might already have decided on his three over-age players according to Olympic rules.
“I already have in mind the three over-age players that I intend using at the Games,” Siasia said after Nigeria were drawn to face Sweden, Japan and Colombia in Group B.
Meanwhile, Onazi is hoping that his new found form ensures a positive finish to the season for Lazio who lie in seventh spot in Serie A and are now chasing a Europa League ticket.
“We’re doing our best to get the Europa League spot,” Onazi said.
