He stated that the training was also been organized principally to consolidate on the progress so far made towards credible elections as well as to improve on the conduct of elections as exemplified in the 2019 General elections.
“It is of utmost importance to note that this is the first major training the Commission is conducting since the outbreak of COVID 19 pandemic. Therefore, you are enjoined to follow the Framework for the Conduct of Elections during COVID 19 pandemic issued by the Commission, First Supplementary to Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, Voters Code of Conduct, VCC and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC protocols. The Manual for Election Officials 2020 is a special edition that underscores the seriousness the Commission attached to the COVID 19 pandemic challenge.
“The Commission in its effort and commitment to doing everything possible to continue to raise the bar higher to ensure the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections introduced innovations such as the Polling Unit Booklet which consist of all the Election forms in one bound volume and also the introduction of scanning and transmission of election result form from the polling units,” he said.
Dr. Idris maintained that these new initiatives are aimed at entrenching the culture and conduct of credible elections in Nigeria and that it is against this background that the TEI consider the training to be of utmost significance as it further builds participants’ capacity as election managers at the Local Government Area offices thus assisting the Commission in enhancing the credibility of the electoral process.
