Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has assured Nigerians that the Buhari administration through his ministry would reposition the country to become a scientifically and technologically advanced country.
The minister observed that it would only be possible if all serving in the nation’s bureaucracy, especially management and staff of the ministry, embraced the emerging mood in the nation by changing their attitudes to work, commitment to duty and putting the nation first in all their undertakings.
According to a press released signed by the chief press secretary to the minister, Mr. Taye Akinyemi, the minister stated this in a meeting with members of the Joint Union Negotiating Council, JUNC, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology chapter in his office at Abuja recently.
Onu reminded the union members that the assurance he gave to Nigerians was realisable if all engaged in the science and technology sector realised now more than ever before that it was only the sector that ccould solve the challenges Nigeria is facing in the areas of security, economy and the rule of law.
The chairman of the union, Comrade Michael Oyibo, while speaking, showed gratitude to President Buhari for appointing a proven leader, seasoned administrator and achiever in person of Dr Onu to head the science and technology sector, adding that this was an assurance that government now realises the pivotal role the sector must play if Nigeria must become great.
However, he lamented the neglect the science and technology sector was subjected to in the past due to poor funding, lack of focus and inability to harness and coordinate the great potentials available in the sector.
