Minister of science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has assured Nigerians that his ministry is determined to promote made in Nigeria goods so that the economy will be in its supposed position.
The minister gave this assurance when the delegate of Manufacturer Association of Nigeria, laid by their president, Mr. Frank Udemba Jacobs, paid a visit to the ministry recently in Abuja.
According to Onu, this ministry and the present administration of President Mohammadu Buhari are committed in securing the Nigerian economy and also making sure that the product is market driven.
He commends MAN on its contribution towards manufacturing and assured of the ministry cooperation with them, adding that the manufacturing of raw material will be far better for the country.
“It is good for us to grow our economy so that we will be what we suppose to be which is to make our product market driven and to promote made in Nigeria goods.
“Onu therefore, urged them to do more in what they have done to help expand and diversify the economy.
In response, president of Manufacturer Association of Nigeria, Udemba Jacobs assured the minister of the cooperation of his members as the market is wide enough.
“We believe that with the involvement of the state government and the practical implementation of the policy across all strata, Nigeria, in no distant future, will be at the threshold of science and technology breakthrough.
“As manufacturers, we are strongly of the opinion that the issue of backward integration should be given accelerated attention by the government through appropriate policy conceptualization and implementation, with consistency as the watch word.
“This calls for focused development of local substitutes of industrial raw materials and inputs that are presently being imported.
“We want a raw material research and development council that is manufacturing-sector driven in its drive for raw materials development,” Jacobs said.
