Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the 2016 budget faithfully in order to ameliorate the hardship faced by Nigerians in larger part of last year.
The traditional ruler in a statement issued in Ile-Ife and made available to Nigerian Pilot commended Buhari for the policies and programmes introduced so far, which he described as people-oriented, and advised Nigerians to be patient with the president.
Oba Ogunwusi said, “I wish to commend the determination of the federal government to secure lives and tackle corruption, ensure stable power supply, revamp the education system, diversify and grow the economy.”
He equally called on state governors to work hand-in-hand with the federal government and ensure that their programmes were people-friendly.
The statement further read: “I greet the good people of Nigeria and welcome you all into the New Year. As I salute the courage and resilience of our citizens, I also want to assure you of better days ahead.
“To my fellow traditional rulers across the length and breadth of the country, I salute you all and pray that God will give us all the wisdom to continue to lead our people.
“To the different groups who have one grievance or the other, I sue for peace and call for dialogue to ensure a peaceful resolution of their grievance.
“Too many innocent lives have been lost because of issues that could have and still have the opportunity to settle amicably.
“In this new year, let us all do our best for the nation, youth and elder alike. The country belongs to all of us. May we all find space to use our God-given talents for the benefit of our motherland.”
