Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has vowed to use his exalted position to promote the growth and development of tourism.
Receiving the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Mr. Carlos Trejo, and the Director-General, Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation, NTDC, Sally Mbanefo, Ogunwusi identified tourism as a veritable means of not only creating jobs, but also contributing to the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, of the government at the state and federal levels.
The ooni, who is the youngest chancellor in Nigeria, also promised to facilitate collaboration between the NTDC and the Republic of Cuba in developing the tourism industry.
“I will ensure that the NTDC collaborates with the Republic of Cuba to strengthen and grow domestic tourism in Nigeria and to develop it to meet international standards. By the time the collaboration is done, Nigeria will become a tourist haven,’’ the ooni said.
He also prayed God to strengthen Mbanefo to promote domestic tourism to boost economic growth in Nigeria.
On her part, Mbanefo commended the ooni for facilitating the collaboration.
The Cuban ambassador also thanked the monarch and Mbanefo for the visit. NAN
