Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC panel that conducted the primaries of the party in Benue State in 2014, Barr Baba Dala has submitted that Governor Samuel Ortom met all the requirements of the party to be its governorship candidate.
Dala made the submission yesterday while testifying before the Governorship Election Tribunal in Makurdi, the state capital.
Dala submitted that Governor Ortom requested and obtained a waiver from the National Working Committee of the party and was duly included on the list of governorship aspirants for the primaries scheduled for December 10 and 11, 2014.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Sebastian Hon, who represented APC in the petition, led Barrister Bala to give his evidence.
The chairman of the panel who identified the letter granting Governor Ortom waiver stated that the party adopted him as its governorship candidate in accordance with its constitution and guidelines, and that all that was required to fulfil the Electoral Act was also done.
He said the governor had satisfied all requirements of the party and the Act, tendering 10 documents, including the APC constitution in defence.
The third respondent, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, represented by Prof Tony Ijohor, associated itself with the submission of the APC which is the second respondent.
The governor eventually closed his case even as the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Elizabeth Karatu adjourned proceedings to September 7 for adoption of written addresses and preliminary objections.
