Ortom Wh APC ‘rigging machine’ collapsed in Benue

BENUE State governor, Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has secured a second term of office following his declaration as the winner of the of the gubernatorial election conducted in the state on March 9 and 23, 2019 respectively.

Declaring the result on March 24,2019 at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office in Makurdi yesterday, the Returning Officer, Professor Sebastian Maimako, said Governor Ortom polled 434,473 to defeat his closest contender, Hon Emmanuel Jime of the All Progressives Congress, APC who scored 345,155 votes, leaving a difference of 89,318 votes.

According to Professor Maimako, “Samuel Ortom, having satisfied the law by scoring the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner.

The election was first conducted in March 9,2019 but declared inconclusive by the Returning Officer, Professor Maimako who said that the difference in margin was less that the number of votes cancelled.

The declaration of the result of the election will go a long way in reducing tension in the state, as the members of the two major political parties, PDP and APC had been engrossed in intimidation and psychological warfare.

The governor on receiving news of his victory has driven to the church in a long convoy to give thanks to God.

Meanwhile, the outcome of the election has triggered wild jubilation across Makurdi and other major cities of the state, resulting in traffic congestion.
