Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has stated that the outgoing Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, is acting as if he is the candidate running for election.
In a statement formally congratulating Mr. Godwin Obaseki on his emergence as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ize-Iyamu wondered if the inability of his APC rival to speak for himself is not a sign of things to come.
While stressing that he looked forward to an issue based campaign with Obaseki, the PDP flagbearer asked Oshiomhole to allow Obaseki speak for himself, noting that “a week after Obaseki emerged as the candidate of the APC, it is interesting to note however that the outgoing governor still speaks as though he is the candidate running for election.
“Is Godwin Obaseki not a grown man? Why can’t he begin to speak for himself or is this a sign of things to come?” he asked.
Ize-Iyamu continued “We also note with interest, Oshiomole’s allusion to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as a tool to harass the PDP flag-bearer. Is Oshiomhole a staff of the EFCC or is the EFCC an extension of his office? The EFCC will do well to assert their independence as an anti-corruption agency by disowning Oshiomole’s statements. We believe with the recent revelation by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions, that the EFCC has more work to do in the investigation of Oshiomhole’s puppet, Obaseki.”
