A pressure group, Afenmai Patriotic Development Association (APDA), yesterday expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the governorship primary elections of the two major political parties in Edo state.
The event led to the two parties, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), respectively producing Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as governorship candidates of both parties in the state.
Members of the group while congratulating the duo, called for ensure issue based campaigns, urging them to bring to the fore, their intended programmes and policies that would make life better for Edo
Coordinator and spokesman of the group, Messrs Kennedy Izuagbe and Lucky Anyia in a statement yesterday in Benin-City, commended the electoral committees constituted by the National headquarters of the two parties for jobs well done.
They also praised the “fair, peaceful and transparent conduct of the primaries”, pointing out that it was “heartwarming as the entire processes were devoid of violence and rancour.”
According to them, “The manner with which the delegates elected their flag bearers in a free, fair and transparent process, the parties has proven to Nigerians that they are ready to help entrench democracy in Nigeria..”
The body advised the political parties of the need to know that internal democracy is key to the overall success of democracy in Nigeria and that there is need to imbibe the conscious practice of upholding the will of the people by always allowing a level playing ground for all aspirants.
Members of the APDA further appealed to the winners to draw up programmes that would sustain the developmental agenda of the out going government which cuts across the three Senatorial zones of the state.
They reiterated their commitment to engage both candidates at the appropriate time on their agenda for the state.
