Federation of Ede Students Union, Artisans and Traders in Ede town of Osun State, yesterday staged a peaceful protest over power outage in the community for the past two months.
The youths and artisans who trooped out in their hundreds carrying placards with different inscriptions called on Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, to urgently restore electricity to the community.
Speaking with newsmen, the President of the Federation of Ede Student Union, FESU, Mr Sodiq Sulaiman totally condemned the IBEDC and decried the attitude of the company to the plight of residents, saying the situation had subjected residents to untold hardship.
Suleman, lamented that the two months outage had seriously affected socio-economic life of the ancient community.
“The development is uncalled for as residents have been sleeping in darkness for long which is dangerous because of hoodlums”, he lamented.
In a reaction to the development, the Branch Manager, Ede Business Unit of IBEDC, Mr. Bamiji Fagbote, who was propelled by the angry youths to address them, said the matter had been reported to the headquarters of the company in Ibadan for necessary action.
Fagbote, urged the youths to exercise patience, noting that the company was doing everything possible within its limit to restore power to the community.
