The tourism ambassador performed at the Inauguration Ball at Aso Rock on May 29, but according to her, her successes so far have been based on merit and not favours from her father’s position.
She insists she has pushed her career with a dint of hard work, and not riding on the back of her father’s influence as some are wont to believe.
“First, it is important I explain that I’m a Tourism Ambassador for the Nigerian campaign and a lot of people ask how it came about. It happened when I released a song with Tunji Oyelana titled ‘I Love My Country’ which is a patriotic song that somehow got to officials of the ministry and the Minister of Tourism at that time, Edem Duke, and they liked it,” she said.
“So with that song and my potential role as a tourism ambassador, the inauguration ball committee thought it would be great to have someone representing a new Nigeria and the female gender. Personally, I feel that a female DJ is unique and it was such an honour to be part of the presidential inauguration dinner and I look forward to working with the new tourism officials as well,” she was quoted to have said after the May 29 performance.
The 24-year old had earlier revealed that her relationship with her ex-boyfriend didn’t work out due to her spending more time on her career.
“That is very hard to talk about because it was a long time ago- precisely two years. Because for me, anything that is worth doing is worth doing well. In other to achieve the Cuppy brand, I had to give more than a hundred percent attention to that,” she had told a national daily.
The younger Otedola is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Music Business at the New York University.
