Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, yesterday said his emergence as the Speaker of the 8th House of Assembly has nothing to do with the 2019 general elections.
Dogara disclosed this when the Presidential Primaries Convention Committee paid him a courtesy called at the National Assembly Complex.
He stated that his priority was to work closely with the Federal Government so as to achieve the desired results.
“We have to rally round with all the tools we can get to make this government a success. We cannot fail our people; and that is why I fault those who already have their eyes on 2019.
“My resolve is to work closely with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the pro-people agenda of our party,” he said.
While describing some politicians already jostling to takeover power in 2019 as unpatriotic, the Speaker insisted that the preoccupation of every lawmaker and party member should be the wellbeing of the entire country.
He also pledged to maintain peace with former Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
Earlier, Dr. Alex Ideh, who led the committee, urged the Speaker to make peace with Hon. Gbajabiamila and the APC leadership.
