Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday in Ibadan, cautioned transport stakeholders in the state over incessant accidents, which had claimed many lives in recent times.
The Speaker of the Oyo Assembly, Hon Michael Adeyemo told the stakeholders, who appeared at the plenary session of the Assembly that they must all contribute meaningfully in tackling the problem.
It would be recalled that the stakeholders, who appeared before the house yesterday are Permanent Secretary and Director, Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Ministry of Transport and General Manager, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) Others represented are Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nigeria Police and all road transport associations in the state.
Hon. Adeyemo, after the various contributions from the members, urged the stakeholders to live up to expectations on their various functions for which they were created.
The Oyo Speaker lamented the unruly attitude of transport associations, who had abandoned the ultra-modern motor parks built by government for the mushroom ones they created.
Hon. Adeyemo called on security agencies to orientate their officers against extortion, adding that the business of protecting lives should not be joked with.
Adeyemo set up a committee to be led by Hon. Oyeleke Oyatokun (APC-Afijio) to meet with the stakeholders at providing laws and other necessary policies to forestall further occurrences.
Also it would be recalled that the Oyo State House of Assembly Self-Accounting Bill 2015 scaled through the first reading.
