Luck ran out of two suspected highway robbers, terrorising travellers along Iseyin/Igbeti roads as they were apprehended by the men of Oyo state police command.
It was stated that the duo whose names are given as Salisu Alhaji Goma (25) and Mohammed Gambo (23) usually wear hoods whenever they want to operate.
The Oyo State police command public relations officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu while addressing newsmen at the police force headquarters ,Eleyele in Ibadan said the suspected armed robbers were apprehended at the weekend evening by members of the police ‘Ambush squad’, on patrol of the highway.
According to the police spokesman, the duo of Salisu and Mohammed has been terrorizing travellers along the highway for sometime before nemesis caught up with them.
Items recovered from the suspected armed robbers including N156, 000 cash, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia currency) pistols and locally made guns, bank’s ATM cards, identity cards and a locally made woman purse, among others.
Ajisebutu cautioned blacksmith against making guns for people they could not vouch for, stressing that the police would treat any blacksmith linked with any locally made gun found with a robbery suspect as an accomplice.
Two victims of the suspected armed robbers, a custom officer serving at Chikanda, Inspector Yahaya Salisu and Ogbonna Chukwu said they were robbed near Igbetti, thanking the police for coming to their rescue.
But the two suspects, Salisu and Muhammed said they took to armed robbery, believing that there is more money there than the cattle rearing business they were into initially.
