The acting Customs Area Controller Oyo/Osun area command ,Mr. Abdulsalam Hassan yesterday said that the command generated a total of thirteen billion, two hundred and one million, nine hundred and eighty-seven thousand, three hundred and twenty-two naira, seventy-seven kobo (13,201,987,322.77) between the months of January to November, 2015.
Also, Abdulsalam Hassan declared that the command succeeded in seizing a total of one hundred and sixty-six (166) seizures with a duty paid value of N395,197,572.00.
The acting customs controller of Oyo/Osun command made the declaration while addressing Journalists in Ibadan on the activities of the command in recent past noted that the command generated a total of N144,285,138.00 from 2156 mentric tonnes (43,120 ‘50kg’ bags of rice) , between October and November 2015 when the restriction on duty collection from the borders was removed.
He emphasised that just on Monday ,14th of December men of his command bombarded a forest along kishi-igbeti axis where rice smugglers hid stack of foreign imported rice. The bags of rice were brought into the command in five loaded trucks.

Controller Hassan who lamented that despite the campaign of the customs against smuggling some smugglers still continue with the nefarious activities.

According to him “it is troubling to observe that despite the sensitization and enlightment campaigns under the platform of ‘Customs Community Consultative Forum (CCCF)’ ,some unscrupulous smugglers continue to smuggle. The command will continue to educate, guide and facilitate trade to enhance willful compliance while the long arm of the law awaits all unrepentant economic saboteurs.” stated that

The Oyo/Osun customs boss noted that the officers and men of the command are ready to confront all the challenges that militates against our successes and continue to build on the achievements so far made in both revenue generation and anti – smuggling.
