hope Democratic Party, HDP, one of the registered political parties that participated in the 2015 general elections, has reeled out conditions under which its numerous court actions against the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, and President Muhammadu Buhari could be withdrawn for out of court settlement. The party said, among others that the present Federal Executive Council, FEC, as put in place by the president must be dissolved to pave way for a new government of national unity. HDP in a statement in Abuja said that the entire lingering crises staring the country in the face in the past two years could be overcome when a government of unity with
economic and political ideas is put in place. In the statement signed by its national leader, Chief Ambrose Owuru and the national publicity Secretary, Mallam Usman Sanni, HDP claimed that it challenged the establishment of the FEC because it was unlawfully and illegally put in place by APC. The party said that the indictment of APC and PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for allegedly spending money beyond the amount lawfully approved had made the 2015 general elections unlawful and liable for cancellation. HDP had upon the release of INEC report on the 2015 general elections and the indictment of the APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for breaching the spending
limits sued the parties and President Buhari at the Federal High Court in Abuja praying for the cancellation of the poll on the strength of INEC findings. “HDP as a progressive and welfarist party has undertaken major steps and positions on issues of National interest. Our positions have been very well known by all Nigerians as we have approached the courts on the matters for resolution and interpretations to engender political and economic development and progress in our land and for which we think the court ought to expeditiously dispose of as a matter of urgency and public interest. “It is our position that in spite of this issues being sub judiced and pending in court in suit between HDP versus APC/
PDP, we think, it is far better if this can be resolved out of the court and an all-inclusive government of national unity is constituted in the shortest possible time to strengthen and promote the needed good governance at this time in our history. “The question heist of purchased presidential election and civilian coup of the 2015 presidential election which violate section 1 (2) of the 1999 constitution is responsible for the present lack of national loyalty as demanded of presidential election under our constitution, now resulting in the present widespread agitations, by displaced politicians and their hireling. “We suggest the immediate and urgent national meeting or conference for unity and progress of our dear country.”
