Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested one Moses Abiodun, a pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, in Ikota, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, for allegedly burying a cow and other fetish items inside his church.
The 34-year-old pastor was arrested recently following a tip-off the previous day that he allegedly performed rituals in the church.
The arrest of the pastor was confirmed by the Ondo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Fasiu Adeyinka, who stated that the activities of Abiodun came under searchlight following reported cases of ritual acts in the church.
The corps, the commandant said, was informed of alleged uncanny acts of the pastor, adding that some members of the church had repeatedly raised alarm over some of the ungodly activities of the pastor during and after church service.
Unable to stomach these uncanny activities, some members opted to leave the church while other thought reporting to the authorities would spare unsuspecting churchgoers and the general public further embarrassing fetish acts in the guise of religious service.
“We got a tip-off that the suspect was the founder of the CAC and he was alleged to have buried some substances inside his church. Our men quickly swung into action and went to the church where some fetish items were exhumed.
“He was asked to dig some spots inside the church where various items such as a cow and pigeon head, big clay pot, white clothes and other charms were exhumed at the entrance and inside the church,” Adeyinka added.
Further, he urged religious devotees to be wary of acts, which are uncanny, suspicious and capable of derailing them from the spiritual path, noting that the quest for spiritual comfort should not be sacrificed for deceit and the desperation of deceivers, who may want to take advantage of their needs to cheat them.
Accordingly, Adeyinka appealed to the people of the state to be very vigilant and always give useful information to the corps.
Already, the commandant said, the command had started investigation into the matter, adding that the pastor was at present in the custody of the NSCDC and would subsequently be handed over to the appropriate authority once preliminary investigations were completed.
