The serenity of the sleepy Umuchoko Village in Umuohiagu Autonomous Community, Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State was last Friday violated following the gruesome murder of a trainee nurse, one Miss Callista Nzubechukwu Uzoigwe, by a pastor and his daughter.
crimeThe cleric, who is only known as Pastor Esom Jehovah, presiding pastor of Assemblies of God Church, Umuohiagu III, Umuanyamele Village and his first daughter known as “The Pee” allegedly caused death of Callista by beating her to a pulp before the girl 21, stabbed her at the back and she died on the spot.
Callista, 23 who hailed from Okpanku Community in Aninri area of Enugu State was allegedly stabbed to death by the first daughter of the pastor while the deceased and the father were engaged in a fight.
Confirming the incident, a co-tenant to the pastor and medical doctor in charge of Graceland Hospital, Umuchoko Umuohiagu told Nigerian Pilot Sunday that Callista died immediately she was stabbed but was rushed to Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku in Owerri North LGA of the state where she was confirmed dead and deposited in the hospital morgue.
The medical doctor who disclosed that the deceased was undergoing training in his clinic stated that he was not at the scene when the incident happened but recalled that he met the girl in a pool of her blood about 2:30 pm that fateful day on return to the hospital following a distress call from other nurses who witnessed it all.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity told our correspondent that trouble ensued between the deceased and pastor’s family when the former confronted her assailant over a missing phone battery and charger.
She said that a boy in the compound had given the deceased a phone battery and charger to assist him recharge it but Pastor Esom Jehovah’s first daughter stole the items which were later found in her custody five days later when search for the items was exhausted.
The pastor, it was learnt, reacted angrily to the allegation against his daughter and engaged the deceased in fight beating her mercilessly before his daughter went and picked a kitchen knife and stuck it deep into Callista’s back while her father held the nurse down.
A source revealed that the knife pierced through the back to her chest and she bled profusely, relapsed immediately and eventually died.
The pastor and his wife said to hail from Ohubaa in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of the state are presently being held at Umuneke Ngor Divisional Police Station alongside another colleague of his who wanted to help him escape even as their children are on the run.
Effort to reach the police for comments on the incident proved abortive as the DPO in charge of Ngor Okpala area could not be reached on phone as at press time.
