Lagos State Sports Commission contract coaches Wednesday tasked Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to pay them their one year outstanding salaries before leaving office on May, 29 this year.

The angry contract coaches who  organised a protest march at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos to press home their demand, pleaded with Ambode to also fulfil promise of hosting athletes and coaches that finished 4th at the last National Sports Festival in Abuja in December, 2018.The protesting coaches, said it was unfair for the Governor to approve 20 months salary arrears payment for athletes while coaches were paid just eight months before the sports festival won by Delta State.

They said they would appreciate Ambode approving immediate payment of the one year  salary arrears while also fulfilling his pledge to host and reward athletes and coaches that placed 4th at Abuja 2018 National Sports Festival.

The over 25  contract coaches carried placards that  read, ” Where on Earth will you pay athletes without paying coaches”,.” Without  coaches , no athletes, no Sports Commission”, ” Pay contract coaches their salaries”, ” Ambode come to our aid”, ” Tinubu save us and ” Lagos State Sports Commission needs good sports chairman amongst others.

The demonstrators later sort audience with the Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandoh who was not on seat but were later addressed by by the Director General of the Commission Babatunde Bank Anthony who appealed to the coaches to be patient adding that the delay in giving full employment to them was due to logistic problem.
