Ebonyi State workers have tasked Governor Dave Umahi to pay them their salaries without further delay, insisting that the two weeks given by the state helmsman for the payment was unacceptable to them.
In a statement signed by Chairman of the state NLC, Comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor and the Secretary, Comrade Chukwuma Onwe on Thursday at the end of their emergency meeting, the workers also said they would not make further sacrifices in terms of cutting the salaries, adding that they had already made enormous sacrifices.
The workers frowned at the delay in the payment of their salaries and called for the immediate payment to prevent industrial disharmony in the state.
According to the release, the NLC said it understood the dwindling revenue accruing to the state from the federation account but advised the state government to fashion out other sources of revenue generation with a view to improving the revenue base of the state.
The statement appreciated the federal government for releasing an intervention fund to states; including Ebonyi to enable them settle outstanding salaries of workers.
