The blame game on why the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lost the general election continued yesterday as the national leadership of the party blamed the hate campaign strategy adopted by the party’s presidential campaign organisation, PDPPCO.
Responding to questions at a press conference in Abuja, the PDP national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh said the PDPPCO headed by Dr Ahmadu Ali completely sidelined member of the National Working Committee, NWC, throughout the campaign period.
He lamented that during the campaign the PDPPCO ignored advice from the NWC and rebuffed the NWC entreaties to stop hate campaign against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
While insisting that members of the NWC will not resign, he maintained that they cannot be blamed for the failure of PDP at the polls
“However, our contention is that we did not lead the party to failure. Our contention is that we were not involved in the process of campaign; we were sidelined in the process of the campaign. We believed that if this working committee had handled the campaign of the President, we would have won that election. We were not involved as national publicity secretary of the party, I had absolutely no role to play in that campaign.
“Our advices were ignored. I can put it on record and call names of prominent leaders of this party that even when we tried to caution that this campaign is on positivity and it has to do with the benefits Nigerians will get from our continuing in office and not a question of name calling on the person of the presidential candidate of the APC, that the campaign is not an abuse, we were ignored.”
