As part of efforts to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, the Board of Trustees, BoT, last night ordered all the warring groups to immediately withdraw all pending cases in court.
The decision was taken after a marathon expanded meeting at Transcorp Hotel, Abuja between the BoT the governors’ forum, the NASS Forum, the former Ministers Forum and concen Stakeholders’ Forum.
However, there was mild drama earlier in the day during the first session of BoT meeting as the former national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi were told to excuse the BoT few minutes into the meeting.
Though Makarfi came back later in the day for the expanded second session meeting, Modu Sheriff did not return for the meeting.
At the end of the reconciliation meeting the Jerry Gana group, former ministers forum and other stakeholders expressed their acceptance of the Caretaker Committee inaugurated by the national convention.
In the resolution read by the BoT secretary, Chief OjoMaduekwe, they jointly decided to “immediately engage all groups, party leaders and members involved in whatever disputes towards a just and lasting amicable resolution of all contending issues.
“The BoT will therefore preside over the processes of major reconciliation in our party as party of its leadership responsibility.
“According, in the light of that, the meeting agrres that all the various contending groups‎ are being supported, and indeed have agreed to work together and to support the decisions reached at the National convention as such a high powered committee is to be set up to ensure speedy resolution and reconciliation of all contending issues.
“It was also agreed that the National Caretaker Committee of the party, ably led by former governor and Senator, Ahmed Makarfi and Senator Ben obi involves members of Concen Stakeholders’ Froum for effective integration off all points view and all tendencies.
“Another committee has also been set up to meet with former National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in the spirit of working together and resolving all outstanding issues.
“All matters that are in court, the parties have been advised, because of extant regulation of our parties decision, no matter should come to court without first going through internal party mechanism.
“That all cases in court be withdrawn immediately as an indication of good faith and commitment to party discipline and party unity, the various parties are also expected to make a commitment to maintain peace and an undertaken not to resort to external agencies to meddle with what is solely internal party affair.”
