PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP, National Chairmanship Aspirant, Otumba Gbenga Daniel yesterday said if the party get it right at the forthcoming convention, taking over power at the Aso Rock Villa will be a walk over. Gbenga stated this in Jalingo during a meeting with party officials at the PDP Secretariat in continuation of his campaign tour across the country. While pledging to return the party to the people if elected on
December 9, the Chairmanship Aspirant and former governor of Ogun state noted that imposition of candidates on the people was a great factor which led to the loss of power by the party. “Our coming here to speak with our people one on one is something unique and part of what we are going to do to return this great party back to the people. “The motor of the PDP is power to the people, but over the years, it does appear that power was been taken off the grassroots and that was the cause of our disaster in the
last general election. “We are going round, restoring hope, talking to our people, sensitising and giving them the real situation that, now, power has come back to them”, he said. The former Ogun state governor expressed optimism that he would use his experience to win the chairmanship election come Dec 9, having previously contested and won two governorship elections in Ogun State. “Most of my friends and colleagues competing were appointed officers; they did not
contest and win elections, and I am sure that will be looked out when the time comes. “But more than anything else, we have a good party with popularity nationwide, and we are ready to correct the mistakes of the past and reposition our party for victory come 2019.” Our correspondent reports that on arrival in Jalingo, the aspirant met with the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Haruna Manu, and other government officials before proceeding for a meeting with the party delegates.
