Owner of DAAR Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, has vowed not to step down for any other candidate jostling for the chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Denying reports that he has withdrawn for Olabode George, a former vice-chairman of the PDP (South-west), Dokpesi said he, in fact, had been busy meeting with delegates across the country.
“High Chief Dokpesi is busy meeting the delegates and outlining his programmes for the reformation and rebuilding of the PDP,” his media team said in a statement.
“He is not considering stepping down for anyone as he is widely accepted by delegates across the country. He remains the candidate to beat”, it added.
The team maintained that Dokpesi had visited sixteen states and will visit the remaining twenty states and the FCT before the convention.
Continuing it said, “As at noon of Saturday, 30th July, we have visited all the states in the southern region, except Ekiti, which we are heading to now.
“We will be meeting delegates from the northern region as from Sunday; so, High Chief Dokpesi is committed to the campaign and he is confident that he will win by the grace of God and the support of the delegates.”
Meanwhile, former two-term governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has withdrawn his interest in the chairmanship position of the party, stating that he will now be supporting High Chief Raymond Dokpesi’s bid for the post.
He disclosed this at the weekend when he hosted Dokpesi and his team at Conference Hotel & Suites, Sagamu, expressing confidence in the ability of the media mogul to rebuild the party and make it the darling of Nigerians.
Daniel stated that he has been under pressure from stakeholders to contest, but that he will abandon his ambition to support Dokpesi.
“I have known High Chief for more than four decades and it beholds on me that I should support him whenever he is seeking any position,” he said amidst applause.
In his remarks, Dokpesi thanked the former governor, assuring him that he will not disappoint as he will work assiduously to bring unity to the PDP South West and ensure that the party wins elections in the geopolitical zone.
