A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP), in Ibadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun has cautioned President Muhammed Buhari not to make the probing of the immediate past administration the preoccupation of the government, otherwise, four years would just roll by and there would not be anything tangible to point at as achievement.
Chief Lekan Balogun, one time Senator gave the declaration in a chat with journalists after his investiture as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria held at the Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
Balogun, who is also the Osi Olubadan of Ibadan acknowledged that there was a great deal of rot in the land, recalling that attention had been drawn to such since his days in the Senate, but maintained that the best form of probe would be to do things differently.
According to him, “there is nothing bad in investigating anybody for the purpose of recovery of some of the alleged loots, but, that can be going on side by side with governance, so that governmental activities would not be relegated to the background while the investigation is going on”.
At the programme, which also had in attendance other notable Nigerians conferred with the Fellowship Award including Professor Toriola Oyewo, Chief Areoye Oyebola, Mr. Akintunde Alagbe, Princess Rukayat Adedoyin Adeyemi among others, Balogun asked the new administration to do things differently from the past and allow people to judge.
Chief Balogun said he had nothing against those canvassing for the extension of the probe period beyond the tenure of the immediate past administration, but insisted that the whole exercise should be left for a panel while the government would be attending to other issues to make life more meaningful to the citizenry.
The Osi Olubadan of Ibadan land described the Fellowship award given him by the institute as something he would cherish for as long as he lives because of the integrity and credibility of the institute, stressing that all the people assembled for the exercise are people of noble character who have made their marks as distinguished personalities.
“I’m highly elated to be counted worthy among these notable Nigerians like Comrade Areoye Oyebola, my big brother, Prof. Oyewo and other highly respected Nigerians and by a very reputable institute. It is something I will continue to cherish”, he added.
