RIVERS State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed worry over the revelation by Governor Nyesom Wike that majority of the policemen providing security for him have been withdrawn by the State Police Command. The PDP Chairman, Brother Felix Obuah, in a press statement, condemned the action of the commissioner of police and said the development was a source of concern to Rivers people and clearly proved the desperation of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to rig the December 10 re-run election.
The party said it is more worried by the confession made by the defeated candidate of the APC in the 2015 governorship election, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, few hours after Governor Wike’s statement, that he (Peterside) had had discussions with security chiefs and officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, regarding the re-run polls. Brother Obuah feared that the confession which was openly made by Peterside in a radio programme in Port Harcourt on Saturday, confirmed the fears of Rivers people that powers from Abuja were desperate to foist the APC at all cost. “The unguarded remarks of Peterside who boasted that he had already concluded discussions with security chiefs and officers of INEC on the December 10 election coming few hours after the withdrawal of majority of policemen attached to Governor Wike may not be a coincidence. “The party would not allow the revelation to be swept under the carpet and called on security agencies to investigate the confession as its consequences are capable of threatening the December 10 polls.” The party urged security agencies to be apolitical during the election, to promote peace and restore the confidence of the people.
