AHEAD of the August 17 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, state chairmen of the party have vowed to work as a team and to support the leadership of Senator Ahmed Markafi-led caretaker committee Making the declaration at the weekend in Port Harcourt, the Chairman, Association of State Chapter Chairmen of the party and Chairman of the party in the Federal Capital Territory,
FCT, Alhaji Yahaya Sulaiman, stated this when he paid a condolence visit to the Rivers State PDP Chairman, Brother Felix Obuah. Alhaji Sulaiman affirmed that the PDP would remain ‎focused and united in the task of choosing its officers. “We have agreed that there will be another national convention on August 17. Also, the Senator Makafi-led caretaker committee has our support. Nothing shall stop the convention,” he declared. The leaders while consoling Obuah noted that the loss of his dear father was an irreparable one. In his response, Brother Obuah thanked the party for deeming it necessary to commiserate with him and his entire family. Noting that death is a necessary end for every living soul, he agreed that his father merely answered the obvious call of nature, explaining that the visit had humbled him and wiped away his tears. On the forthcoming national convention, Obuah urged them
to remain committed to the unity and progress of the PDP, while also promising proper hosting of the event. “Despite the loss of my beloved father, I promise to be a good host to you. We have almost put in place all logistics to ensure a successful hosting of the national convention,” he assured. It would be recalled that the PDP held its convention in Port Harcourt on May 21 where Senator Makarfi was chosen as the caretaker committee chairman.
