In spite of the sack of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, national working committee led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff by the national convention of the party, Prof Jerry Gana’s faction last night kicked against the Caretaker Committee that was inaugurated to manage the affairs of the party.
Reacting to the decision of the national convention, the Gana faction said the Board of Trustees, BoT, should have been mandated to take over the affairs of the party following the sack of the NWC.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Tanimu Turaki said what transpired in Port Harcourt has further polarized the party.
“It is now the for the BOT to step in and take charge. It is there in our Constitution that in a situation like this that is unpresidented that the BOT, the conciensnse of the party as the fathers of the party should step in immediately.
“There shouldn’t be any vacuum and we are concerned that what is coming out of the party from Port Harcourt may likely deepen our disagreement.
“In this situation therefore the BOT leadership must take up it responsibilites over the reigns of the affairs of the party and bring all the members of our party back home for us to sit down and find a way forward as members of one family.
“We were opposed to the zoning and indeed the zoning has been cancelled or set aside.
“We also opposed to the convention taken place and the convention did not take place courtesy of the court.
“Again, we were opposed to the way the Congresses have been conducted, that, they fell short of our expectations. Now these congresses and conventions have been set aside,
“We here have sat down and review the happening in Port Harcourt very carefully and the decisions that came out have clearly vindicated our positions which is based on principles.
“We had taken a position that things were done wrongly and unconstitutionally. Things have been done without due regards to processes and procedures.”
“Coming out of the Port Harcourt meeting, with two groups now instead of one, we have examined that very cautiously, we had also had some of the statements coming from the two groups and we are here trying to carefully study them to look at the implementations for the future and progress of our party.
“It is really unfortunate that instead of working as one group towards strengthen and bringing all members together, our friends in PH has ended up in further factionalising the party.
“There is a group now behind sheriff saying that everything that has been done is illegitimate and wrongful.
“And then the other group are saying that Sheriff has been dissolved.
Also speaking, former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu stressed that “there is a body that is constitutional mandated to take over the affairs of the party. And that body is the consecience of the party called BOT.
“At this point in time, the only legal organ bidy conditionally empowered to actually takeover the affairs of the party is the BOT.”
