Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday debunked reports that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is on the verge of extinction following its defeat in the last general election.
Ekweremadu, who disclosed that the post-election committee had received over 1,000 memoranda submitted, said that it will commence zonal hearings from next week.
He made the disclosure during an interactive session with journalists after a meeting of the PDP Post-Election Review Committee at Legacy House, Abuja.
According to Ekweremadu, who is also the chairman of the review committee, it is illogical to surmise that a political party that has 13 governors and 49 senators is dying.
“PDP is strong as ever. We have 49 members in the Senate and nobody can say that such a party with 49 members in the Senate is dying. Certainly, that is not true. That is not how to die. And we have 13 governors in place. And we believe God that we are going to get more when the remaining governorship elections are held.
“We want to appeal to our members to remain faithful in PDP. And we will do everything to regain their confidence both at the state and national level. And by the grace of God by 2019, we will be able to get back to power to give Nigerians a new lease of life for a complete new government.”
The review committee was set up after the general elections to amongst other things draw up a road map for the party’s reconciliation.
“We have now come to another critical point, we now want to take our work to the ordinary people of PDP in respective zones and states.
He explained that each team consisting of three members will cover two geopolitical zones.

Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun will lead the North East and North West team and will conduct public sitting in Gombe July 6 – 8 and Kaduna from July 8 – 10.
