Bayelsa state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, has described the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirants that recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as opportunists that are banking on federal might to win the forthcoming election in the state.
Addressing a press conference at the PDP national secretariat, Abuja after submitting his nomination forms for the party primaries, Governor Dickson said Bayelsa remains a stronghold of the PDP in spite of the defection of the governorship aspirants.
He noted that what APC has in Bayelsa state are only “ambitious governorship aspirants” who have no followership at any level in the state.
Governor Dickson, who was accompanied by thousands of supporters led by Bayelsa elders including former Governor Solomon Alamieyesigha, said he is not moved by the defection of a few individuals.
“You have seen my supporters from all parts of the state and this is a practical testimony of the support being enjoyed by PDP. Bayelsa is in safe hands of the PDP. All the leaders and stakeholders who came with him here are the people who have been making people win elections.”
He said his government runs an inclusive governance, adding that he hopes to formally declare his intention to run for a second term on Tuesday.
“No other party has the kind of support that PDP enjoys in the state. There is no shaking for the PDP in Bayesla. It is not when a few people defects to other platforms that we will be affected.
“Political victory is achieved through concrete structures not rented crowd. He dismissed the claim by some defected members of the PDP in the state that they have the support of elders, saying there are parading imaginary elders.”
Governor Dickson further added that he is running based on his achievements in the past four years and consolidation remains his campaign slogan.
“I am not running for office not on basis of promises but I talk about what I have done. If you ask me whether we are where we want to be, I will be the first person to say no and that is why I am offering to run for a second term,” he concluded.
