Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun State yesterday held three parallel Congresses where State Executive Council were elected.
The trio of Senator Representing Ogun East at the National Assembly, Buruji Kashamu; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole and member representing Remo Federal Constituency in the green chambers, Hon Ladi Adebutu held their separate congresses at different venues.
While the faction loyal to Kashamu were at the party secretariat at IBB Boulverd in the state capital, the faction loyal to the Adebutu were at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, directly in front of the party secretariat.
Bankole’s faction held their own at the palace of Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Ake also in the state capital.
At the factional congress of Kashamu, both the outgoing Chairman and the Secretary, Engineer Bayo Dayo and Alhaji Semiu Sodipo respectively were returned elected.
Dayo contested the position with one Engr. Jamiu Adeite but won after polling 839 votes as again 2 votes recorded for Adeite.
Sodipo was also returned elected after polling 793 as against 7 votes recorded for his contender, Adebimpe Fatai.
Former Chairman of Ifo local government and former member of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Sikirullahi Ogundele and Chief Wale Egunleti also emerged at the two other Congresses.
The Chairman of the Ogun State Congresses, El-Yakub Muhammed while speaking at the party’s Secretariat said he was not aware of any other parallel congress.
He said he has only come to the state to discharge his duty as directed by the national leadership of the party adding that any descenting voice should come to the party’s Secretariat instead of parallel congresses.
Former Minister of Mines and Steal, Sarafa Tunji Isola, Adebutu and former Deputy to Daniel, Alhaja Salmat Badru who were together at the factional Congress held in Obasanjo Library expressed dissatisfaction at the way Kashamu has been handling the affairs of the party.
According to the party leaders, Senator Kashamu has turned the party to his personal property which was not in the best interest of the party in Ogun.
They however expressed optimism at the ability of the national leadership of the party at resolving all issues in Ogun PDP before 2019 general elections.
Adebutu who expressed satisfaction about the process of the congresses said he was disappointed in Kashamu for disobeying the court rulings for conducting a parallel Congress.
He said, “That shows the extent of understanding of this process, the courts have said the tenure of that exco has expired and yet you see disobedience to that court pronouncement, its a very some thing, I am disappointed.”
When asked about it governorship ambition for 2019 under PDP, Adebutu said, “I am interested in a virile PDP and good governance, when we get to that bridge we will cross it.
