CHAIRMAN of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nasarawa State, Francis Orogu has revealed that the then national leaders of the party frustrated the failed bid by the State House of Assembly to impeach governor Umaru Tanko AL-Makura in 2014.
He said with PDP forming the overwhelming majority in the Legislative arm of government of 20 members against 4 of the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the period under review, governor Al-Makura who is currently serving his second term in office would have been successfully impeached if not for the stumbling block created by the then leadership of PDP at the national level.
Orogu who served as a member of the state House of Assembly for Keana constituency in the last dispensation, made the assertion when he received in audience the campaign team of an aspirant for the national chairmanship of the party, Chief Raymond Dokpesi at the state party secretariat in Lafia.
He regretted that the PDP family in the state had been neglected for so long in terms of being carried along in the affairs of the party by past national leaders despite its strategic position and unflinching loyalty and sincere support for the party at all levels.
He stated, “As I speak, we have four former Deputy Governors who remain committed members of our party in the state. We have 20 former serving members of the PDP that are still intact despite losing power”
He said that unless any candidate for the forthcoming national convention of the party brings forth any convincing reason(s) as to why he/she is the best candidate for the national chairmanship position, the PDP in Nasarawa State would give its total support to the candidature of Raymond Dokpesi during the convention.
The state PDP chairman however, urged the aspirant to ensure that Nasarawa State was carried along in all the affairs of the party at the national level if given the mandate to serve.
Earlier the aspirant, Chief Raymond Dokpesi assured that he had all its takes to reposition the party for greatness if elected, saying that PDP remains the only popular party and acceptable party in the world.
