Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors Forum yesterday expressed confidence in the ability of the new Acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to reposition the party and make it more inclusive as the party rebuilds ahead of 2019.
The governors of the PDP in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday said the emergence of ex-governor and senator was one done after careful selection, given the battle ahead.
The statement signed by the coordinator of the Forum, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, said “Sheriff is coming on the job with immense wealth of experience and will no doubt use his vast network to rebuild the party, restore members’ confidence and act as a counterfoil to the many antics of the present APC regime.”
The governors urged the new national chairman to avoid all diversionary tactics and work towards uniting all aggrieved members and fashion out modalities to woo new party faithful.
“We urge you to shun all diversionary tactics that might be thrown at you and concentrate on how to bring together all aggrieved party members as well as fashion out ways to woo new members, especially the youth.
“The Forum is solidly behind you and will deploy its support to ensure that our shared vision for our party is realized as we prepare for 2019.
“It should interest you that the present regime has demonstrated that it is not ready for power; it is therefore an opportunity for your tenure to show that the PDP remains the only truly national party that can redress the fumbling and serial inconclusiveness of several programmes and agendas of the APC,” the statement read.
PDP’ll re-occupy Aso Rock in 2019 – Secondus
Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, yesterday sent a strongly worded message to the All Progressives Congress, APC- led government that this is the era of democracy and not a military regime.
According to the PDP stalwart, while speaking at the rededication of Abia State to God and victory thanksgiving ceremony in Umuahia yesterday, “PDP leaders are been harassed, intimidated without cause, yesterday it was Military regime; they all came and gone, this is a democracy and not a military era. Those actors up there should be warned.”
Also present at the occasion were the Governors of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose, and his counterparts from Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom as well as Ebonyi and Bayelsa, who were ably represented by their deputies.
Fayose warned Abians to be wary of the change they clamour for, saying: “When you look for change it can become chance. Dollar that is increasing and oil price that is nose diving, will surely change for real. Ikpeazu will not disappoint Abians; he will do as promised.”
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in his words said: “Come 2019, we are going to Aso Rock; nothing will deter the PDP from getting to Aso Villa.”
It would be recalled that the ongoing anti-corruption war by the federal governmenthas been castigated as one that is targeted at just the opposition members alone, even when some of President Buhari’s key cabinet members have been fingered for various corrupt practices.
Stop labelling Modu sheriff Boko Haram sponsor – PDP Auditor
National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju has challenged those labelling the new chairman of the party, Senator Modu Sheriff, to prove his culpability or shut up.
Speaking on the mixed reactions that trailed the emergence of Modu Sheriff as the new chairman of PDP, Alhaji Adeyanju said the tag on the new chairman is a ploy to discredit the party because of the intimidating influence of the new chairman.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Alhaji Adeyanju raised the alarm that the allegation that the new national chairman of the party is romancing with Boko Haram was being raised now by faceless people as part of plots to discredit PDP before Nigerians and the international community.
According to him, “It is being erroneously speculated in some quarters that our new National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is a Boko Haram sponsor ,let those speculating this come out with concrete evidence and if they don’t have one, they should keep quiet and stop spreading such dangerous rumour.
“We are very much aware that some elements are jittery over PDP’s decision to pick him as its new National Chairman and the only way out for them is to label him as Boko Haram sponsor, but they cannot succeed in their new plot because the government would have arrested and charged him to court as done to a serving Senator in the National Assembly during the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, the trial is still in progress,” he stated .
He said, just as the ruling party has done to many of former PDP members, “Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was a founding member of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC before he worked out on them because of the injustice netted out to him,he was not seen or labelled Boko Haram sponsor then but now that he joined the PDP and is being made the national chairman, he is being labelled as evil, there is God oh.”
Adeyanju also appealed to all well meaning Nigerians and the international community to ignore the new antics of the enemies of progress in the efforts of the PDP to reposition itself ahead of the 2019 general elections.
