Out-gone Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State, Mr. John Okon, has advised his successor, Mr. Inok Edim, to source for the running of the party’s activities elsewhere as the state government does not have budgetary allocation for the party.
Speaking yesterday at the party’s secretariat in Calabar shortly before the handing over ceremony to newly elected officials, he urged the new leadership of the party to source for funds through personal contacts with members in the national and state assembly, as well as from other elected representatives.
Okon, who stated that the party was enjoying good patronage in the state as a result of the synergy built by various administrations over the years, urged the Edim-led executive to leverage on the synergy that had made the party the choice of the electorate over the years.
His words, “You should note that the PDP does not have budget in Cross River appropriation. So, you will have to source for your funds. You should go to the state and national assembly members to source for funds.
“It is the first in the history of the state PDP that an outgoing (chairman) will be meeting with the incoming (one). It shows the party has synergy in the state. The challenge now is for you to improve on the successes and we know you will not let the party down.”
