Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, interest groups and organisations have resolved to mobilise their supporters for Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to enable him deliver on his electoral promises.
The groups include the Nsukka General Assembly led by emeritus Professor Lawrence Ocho and two-time minister, Chief Nnia Nwodo, the Enugu State Working Committee of the PDP and a delegation of the Enugu North zonal leaders of the party.
They expressed their solidarity for the governor when they called at the banquet hall of the governor’s lodge in Enugu at separate times.
Although the Nsukka General Assembly and Enugu State PDP Working Committee delegations met with Governor Ugwuanyi behind closed doors, it was gathered that the group involving the former information minister who visited as kinsmen of the governor formally congratulated him and raised issues on the developmental needs of Enugu North senatorial zone, and urged his administration to address them.
They offered their unflinching support and cooperation to ensure that the governor succeeds in his determination to build a united, peaceful and progressive Enugu State, adding that it would be their pride if Ugwuanyi, their son, ook the state to the desired next level where all stakeholders would be proud to be part of.
Ugwuanyi, who felt honoured by the visit, expressed appreciation for their invaluable advice as elder statesmen to make Enugu State a peaceful and united state.
Others on the delegation included former vice chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Prof. Julius Onah, woman leader and member of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mrs. Maria Okwor, Mr. Basil Onugu, Mrs. Grace Obayi, Chief Simon Ossai and Prof. Den Chris Onah, among others.
In the delegation of the PDP leaders was the state chairman, Chief Ikeje Asogwa, who spoke on behalf of the party before the session went into a closed door meeting.
He said: “We have come not only to once again congratulate you on your resounding victory but also to tell you that with your outing so far, we are proud of you and would stand by you to take our state, our party to a higher level.”
The party leaders recalled the tortuous journey through which the stakeholders went to get to the present situation where Governor Ugwuanyi has now taken charge and is doing them proud.
