Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the April 11 elections in Ogun state, Mr. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka has expressed optimism that the party will soon resolve its rift with former President OlusegunObasanjo.
Fielding questions from journalists at PDP national secretariat, Abuja after a meeting with leaders of the party, Isiaka said despite the role played by Obasanjo during the last general election, his fatherly role over all is not in doubt as he has said so himself.
According to him, “In spite of his leaning during the last election, Obasanjo remains a father to Ogun state politicians and all the contentious issues he has against the party will be resolved.
“Baba has said that he is not really a member of the PDP now. And as I have said before, he still remains father of all. For some political reason he might have leaned to a particular candidate at the last elections at the national level which he has the right to.
“We as politicians see him as father of all. We believe that at some point soon most of those differences will be resolved and we will be able to have him back hopefully.
“I think the bottom of it is that we see him as a father of all across party lines and at a particular election, he may for some reasons support a particular candidate ‘A’ or ‘B’ as was the case in the last election. That does not take away the fact that he is the father of all.
The governorship candidate, who is contesting the results of nine local government in the April 11 elections in Ogun, also expressed optimism that he will be victorious in the election tribunal because they had a very solid case.
“We have proven our case beyond reasonable doubt as far as we are concerned.
Everything that we expect to do, we have done and we are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that yes, there are enough reasons to question this nine local government that we have taken to the court.
“Of course until the pronouncement is done, we cannot say anything. The fact of the matter is that we are more optimistic of the case than we were at the beginning of it. The fact on the ground is enough to prove that.
“Recall that supporters of the APC came to the court and beat up our supporters. What that demonstrates is frustration of the irrevocable evidence we had against them.
“That frustration is all over the street. So the fact of the matter is that we are very optimistic, we are waiting for the Judges to make their wise pronouncement.”
Isiaka explainved that the people of Ogun state are disappointed at the leadership style of the All Progressive Congress in the state.
He pointed out that the people of Ogun were not carried away with the bandwagon effect of running to the party at the centre as they are in high hopes that the party won the April 11 gubernatorial elections.
“At the Local level there has not been anything much, the people of Ogun are highly disappointed with the All Progressive Congress and within the PDP membership, the hope is high that this election we won and we hope to get back from the tribunal.
“The mood down there and this you can confirm from the streets is our people have not bothered themselves about the national level more so that government is being formed.”
