People’s Democratic Party, PDP National Youth Restoration Vanguard has thrown its weight behind the candidature of the incumbent governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The group said its support for Dickson was on the grounds that he is the best performing governor in Nigeria whom the party is happy to have in its fold.
In a press statement issued in Abuja, the Vanguard’s National Coordinator, Abubakar Ibrahim Babangida, said the group was able to verify the extent of Dickson’s positive impact as a performing governor after a tour of Bayelsa State.
According to the statement, “People of the state both young and old, women and children all expressed satisfaction with the developmental projects of his administration.
“Bayelsa under Dickson is one of the few states where the fallen crude oil prices and Naira devaluation have not totally crippled economic activities and put lives on hold. It is apparent that the Bayelsa State governor was able to properly manage the crisis that has thrown other states into dire financial straits.
“The spread of his developmental efforts across the state is something that is worthy of adaptation at national level as it is a practice that can help build cohesion. What we saw in Bayelsa was a state whose population was unanimous in applauding the achievements recorded in the past four years with a unified clamour for a repeat of another four years.
“We believe that a Seriake Dickson win at the coming governorship elections will be a strategic marketing platform for the PDP in subsequent elections particularly the 2019 general elections when our great party would be returning to power at the center.
“His achievements, which would be more far reaching in his second term, would be useful for the PDP to showcase to other states of Nigeria,” the statement said.
The group urged other PDP aspirants who lost out in the party’s primary to close ranks and unite behind Dickson since a united PDP in Bayelsa would consolidate their chances of an easy win in the election that will hold when Dickson must have completed his second term.
It further urged the people of the state to support the incumbent governor as appreciation for his landmark achievements in his first tenure by giving him another term to perfect his developmental projects.
