COLLATION of PDP Young Leaders Forum has unanimously agreed to sustain its support for its parent Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to enable it put its house in order to organise a convention with the aim of taking the party to greater heights ahead of the 2019 general election. In a communiqué read byAnthony Ehilebo, one of the conveners of the group on Thursday in Abuja, the nation’s capital during a press conference, the group said Nigerians need the PDP now than ever to give focused leadership to the country. Ehilebo, noted that their position to stand by the party after they recently gave a 45 day ultimatum was occasioned by the recent reconciliatory moves which saw the Ahmed Makarfi- led faction and that of Ali Amodu Sheriff coming together to resolve the crises bedeviling the party even though desired results have not been achieved. It would be recalled that the Collation of Young Leaders in the PDP on 20th of January, 2017 issued a forty five day ultimatum of withdrawing their support for the party. The group however, commended the moves made for reconciliation especially those initiated by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state and former president Goodluck Jonathan noting that, those moves was highly commended. While identifying the major reasons for the quagmire in the party which he said was largely due to insistence of party members on playing the “god”for personal gratification above the common good of the party, the group emphasized the need for all the worrying parties from both the Makarfi and Sherif camps to put party above self and for the common good of Nigerians. Furthermore, the group reiterated its stands and solidarity recognizing former president Goodluck Jonathan as the leader of the party as the immediate past president who happens to be the highest ranking person in the party. The communiqué, the group called on all party members to “give unalloyed support and loyalty to the former president in his quest of resolving the crisis in the party”. On a disappointing note however, the group expressed dissatisfaction over the demeanor of some governors elected on the platform of the PDP, which they said “are not living up to their responsibilities as beneficiaries of the party”. He added that “they must begin to show credible leadership and focused direction that is devoid of selfishness but waived to party supremacy”. Going further, the group said under the PDP governors watch,so many things have gone wrong in the party consequent upon what they described as the governor’s dormant and lackadaisical attitude towards party affairs. This is not forgetting the fact that most party members decries the over bearing influence of the governors. To ameliorate situation so that the party can provide true leadership of Nigerian, the PDP young leaders recommend that a congress be urgently called to form a formidable force to tackle the lack luster leadership of the present APC government stressing that the leadership crisis in party has cost the party the gubernatorial seats in Ondo and Edo states. It however restated that the PDP convention which it advocates for must have about sixty percent of young people with unquestionable integrity in all its committee to monitor the electoral process to ensure fairness, equity for all the contestants. In furtherance of a better party with focus on internal democracy to tackle the challenges of hunger in the land the forum said the in-house fighting must stop and such energies be channeled towards steaming the cluster of anarchy and doom sighting the arrest of comrade Austin Okai from Kogi state and some other PDP voices as an affront to democracy. It called on the Kogi state governor to allow the voice of opposition to stand in the state as no democracy can flourish effectively without credible opposition adding that opposition acts as guide to effective governance. The group called on the security agencies to release Austin Okai unconditionally advising the governor not to muzzle the voice the people in the state.
