Following the recent petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC by Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere’s spokesman, accusing Governor Rauf Aregbesoal of Osun State of alleged financial recklessness and criminal mismanagement of the funds accrued to the state from the federation account a group under the aegis of Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEO) has thrown its weight behind the petition.
It would be recalled that Comrade Odumakin, who is an indigene of Osun State, submitted the petition titled “Petition against Governor Rauf Aregbesola for financial recklessness, corruption, money laundering and fraudulent application of the state’s resources”, on behalf of a group, called “Osun Stakeholders”, on Monday last week.
The group however declared that Governor Aregbesola has the received sum of N10 billion from the Federation Account in the month of June and therefore queried the rationale behind the purported payment of half salary to the workers in the state.
Referring to a publication recently released in the media, from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja, detailing the allocation accrued to the State from the Federation Account and alleging Aregbesola of keeping quiet as if allocation was not released to the State and Local Government areas of the State by the Federal government since the beginning of this fiscal year, adding that sum of N4. 542,593,453.51 was received by the State government While the entire thirty (30) local government areas of the State received sum of N5, 419,694,016.58 for the month of June, 2015.
In a statement issued and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman the group urged the (EFCC) to expedite action on the investigation into the alleged financial mismanagement of the state under Rauf Aregbesola’s administration, alleging that Mr. Aregbesola has committed financial crimes against the people of the state. The group insists that Governor Aregbesola has sunk the state into financial problems beyond redemption.
According to him, “Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola’s government has blindfolded the people of the state with series of lies all this while on the allocation accrued to the state from federation account and as well mismanaged the huge resources accrued to the state, which is against the spirit of openness, fairness, justice and accountability promised the people by Aregbesola’s government.
“To let the people know the reason why the Odumakin’s petition is now being criticized, it is because the petition is self explanatory and there is no way Mr. Rauf Aregbesola can escape the anti-graft bodies probe and prosecution after leaving office like immediate past governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido and other former governors in the country.
“Mr. Aregbesola has plunged Osun State into debt regime which the state may not recover from, in the next 10 years and Mr. Governor failed to give tangible explanations on how funds from federation account like state allocation, local government allocation, Sure-P, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) fund, Excess Crude Oil, Ecological Fund, accruing to the.”
